Fox Evades
Dream Pop/Post-Punk Artist
I'm Fox Evades (Jordan Mae) born in Salford, Manchester now based in Nottingham. I'm a solo DIY solo musician, songwriter and bedroom producer on a mission to bring back the sounds of the 80s with a modern twist. Think The Smiths meets The XX and you're almost there.
I began to teach myself to play the guitar from the early age of seven using a CD-ROM and an old antique acoustic guitar. Johnny Marr of The Smiths is probably the reason I became fascinated with guitars and I began to release covers from my biggest influences on YouTube, which gained features from Morrissey and NME Magazine.
I went on to study music technology at Winstanley College (birthplace of The Verve) and it was only during the pandemic that I took the plunge to self-release my music and share it with the world. Influenced by the likes of The Cure, Pixies, Placebo and girl in red, my debut single 'The Heart That Drowned' immediately gained traction and was aired across BBC Introducing Midlands.
My second single 'Bira' was featured as BBC Introducing Midlands 'song of the week', with daily plays on BBC breakfast, afternoon and evening shows across Lincolnshire, Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. I also became the featured artist of the week with the release of 'Someday' and my debut EP 'Nothing but Our Dreams' was aired in its entirety on the Fox Evades special BBC Introducing Midlands show and has amassed over 15,000 streams on Spotify alone.
I love combining soaring chorusy guitar riffs with heavy reverb and intimate lyrics to give an overall sense of intrigue and get under the skin of my listeners. With songs about climate change, LGBTQ rights and mental health, the aim with my music is to help people who are similar to me feel less alone.
You can listen to my debut EP 'Nothing But Our Dreams' on Spotify, Apple and Amazon Music and merch/CDs are available on my website. Expect to see some more releases this year.
